Benefits of Micro-suction and What It Is

Micro-suction is a procedure to remove a buildup of wax or infection from the ear canal. At All Ear Care micro-suction is performed under direct vision using a state-of-the-art Zeiss microscope. Our Zeiss microscope is also equipped with a camera, so we are able to take photos and videos of your ear canal, this is a useful tool in educating you about your own ears.

What Happens During the Appointment?

You will meet with the nurse who will discuss with you the issues you are experiencing. You will then be asked to lie down on the electric adjustable bed and the nurse will then touch your ear, open the canal and adjust the microscope so she can have a full view of your ear, canal, TM and the middle ear. The nurse will then advise you of what she can see and if you wish, take a photo. You will then be asked to lie still as she then uses her instruments attached to a suction machine to clear the canal of wax. You will be informed every step of the way of what to expect and when. The micro-suction can be noisy so please let the nurse know if the noise is too loud.

The nurse can show you the photos she has taken during the procedure and explain to you what you are seeing, this is also a great tool if you want to learn more about your ears.

The nurse will finish the consultation by writing up notes based on what was done and what was seen during your appointment.  At times your GP may need to know of any issues and with your permission these can be emailed directly to your Medical Centre.
